Putu Cake is a type of traditional Indonesian snack in the form of a cake filled with brown sugar, wrapped with grated coconut, and coarse-grained rice flour.
This cake is steamed by placing it in a slightly compacted bamboo tube. This cake is sold at sunset until late at night.
Enjoying putu cakes at night with cold-weather especially light rain is a pleasure for some people.
Typical food with unique manufacture with a distinctive sound makes this cake special too. This cake is sold for one thousand rupiahs each. Even though cakes are classified as old times until now putu cakes are still often sold.
Besides that, you can also make your putu ayu cake, here's a recipe on how to make a putu ayu sadhana cake
250 grams of white glutinous rice flour
3 tbsp powdered sugar
5 pandan leaves
150 ml of clean water
enough brown sugar for filling
1 grated coconut for sprinkling
Prepare the mold, use bamboo cut into small pieces. Make a pandan paste, put pandan leaves in a blender with water, and strain.
Prepare a container, mix the glutinous rice flour, powdered sugar, and salt with one finger. Mix well. Then pour the pandan paste water into the dry mixture little by a little while mixing with your hands until the dough is loose or in my language it is crunchy
Prepare the stuffing, comb the brown sugar. If you want to use cheese, you can also use it, which means that the flour mixture will not add too much sugar, so there will be no collision between the sweet and salty.
Heat the steamer, put the dough into the half mold then fill it with the filling, then fill it again with the dough until it is full and steam until cooked.
How to steam using the back and forth technique, steam for at least 5 minutes then turn and steam for 5 minutes
Then remove the putu cake from the mold and serve it
