Kiskendo Cave is a cave located on Jalan Goa Kiskendo, Jatimulyo Village, Girimulyo District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. The name Kiskendo itself is the name of the kingdom where the cow-headed giant, Mahesasura and Lembu Sura, reigned. The myth is that at that time the heavens held a competition to kill Mahesasura.
If it is a man, then he will become the husband of Dewi Torokasih and if it is a woman, he will be made a brother to the Goddess. At that time, two ape men named Subali and Sugriwo came forward. And Kiskendo Cave also became a place of competition as well as a place of bloodshed.
In Kiskendo Cave, puppet reliefs are depicting the battle. This cave was formed because of water infiltration that existed for hundreds of years which has a length of about 600 m accompanied by many branching roads and dim light. There are also several places to meditate, namely the Tledek Hermitage, Kusuma, Padasan, Sabtri Tani, Semelong, Seterbang, Sakandang, Selumbung, and Lumbung Kamplek.
The route to go to Kiskendo Cave is quite easy to reach. From the center, 0 km from the city of Yogyakarta to the west through to the north and Jl Siliwangi then continue straight. From the intersection, direct the vehicle to the west through Jl. Godean then goes straight to Jl. Kaligesing and follow the road to arrive at Goa Kiskendo.
This tour is open from 07.00 WIB - 17.00 WIB. The entrance ticket is also relatively cheap, only Rp. 5,000/person and the caving service costs Rp. 40,000. In addition to enjoying its beauty, visitors can also play rock climbing rides.
