Lempuyang comes from the words "Lempu" and "Hyang". Lempu means light and Hyang is a term for god. Therefore, Lempuyang Temple means the bright light of God.

This is also supported because Lempuyang Temple is located east of the city of Bali, which is where the sun rises.

But some say that lempuyang comes from a type of plant used for cooking. Which is often associated with the names of the banjara or hamlets around Lempuyang Temple.

Not only that but some say the word Lempuyang comes from the word "Empu" which means to guard. This is because a source said that Hyang Pasupati sent his three sons to protect Bali Dwipa from all shocks and natural disasters.

The location of Lempuyang Temple is on the eastern tip of the island of Bali, on the eastern slope of Mount Lempuyang. The address is in Abang District, Karangasem Regency, Bali.
